West Ealing
8 Storey Mixed Use Development, Ealing, London
A high-density, mixed-use development within a tightly constrained brownfield site. The design has been developed to provide 40 apartments on 7 floors above a ground floor commercial space, all looking into a central courtyard. Planning restrictions prevented any outward facing windows as the site was surrounded by an electrical substation, Mosque and a locally listed public house.
To maximise daylighting, the design incorporates large industrial style windows and exaggerated columns. As the building rises, the built form steps creating roof terraces for both apartments, with a communal roof terrace on the top floor. The external elevations have been detailed to use contrasting materials to provide a scale to the built form and to add interest to the external facades.
The planning application is ongoing.
